Four LCCC Runners, Men’s XC Team Earn NJCAA Academic Honors
February 18, 2020 – – Four Lorain County Community College runners and the Men’s Cross-Country Team were named NJCAA Scholar All-Americans by the NJCAA Cross Country Coaches Association for the Fall of 2019.
Justin Below (Lorain/Brookside) earned his second Scholar All-American nod with a 4.0 GPA, while Jason Molek (Wellington/Home Schooled) and Henry Haas (Wellington/Wellington) garnered their first Scholar All-American honors. Molek also carried a 4.0 GPA and Haas a 3.82 GPA to help lead the men’s team to their third consecutive Academic All-Scholar Team Award. On the women’s side, Samantha Glass (Sheffield Lake/Brookside) earned her first honor with a 4.0 GPA.
The LCCC Men’s team ranked second nationally with a 3.606 team GPA among NJCAA Division III Colleges. To qualify for the award, a team must have a 3.2 GPA or higher. Although they ranked fifth nationally with a 3.191 team GPA, the women’s team fell just shy of their third consecutive team award.
Head Coach, Jim Powers praised his team stating “I am so proud of these LCCC Cross Country runners. They truly embody the ideal of a student-athlete. Not only do they commit to a full-time class schedule, juggle school, athletics, and a job (remember we are a DIII program with no athletic scholarships) – they have found the strength in themselves to excel at each of these aspects of their student experience. I am also very proud that Lorain County Community College is a place that allows these students to enjoy a full experience as student-athletes.”
