Lady Commodores Drop 92-69 Decision to Wayne County (MI) CC

December 30, 2017 — The Lorain County Community College women’s basketball team trailed by only two points at halftime, 42-40, and six points after three quarters, 67-61, before Wayne County (MI) CC outscored the Lady Commodores, 25-8, in the final stanza to take home a 92-69 victory at LCCC on Saturday afternoon, December 30..
Sophomore guard Jamie Maddan scored a game-high 30 points and collected 11 rebounds to lead the victors.  Freshman forward Chasidey Willis scored 17 points with a game-high 20 rebounds. Freshman guard Luz Montijo added 18 points, including four three-point baskets in the second half.
LCCC was paced again by sophomore forward Angel Blakely with 27 points on 9-of-18 shooting, a team-high seven rebounds, two steals and one assist.  Sophomore guard Carrie Carlson tallied 14 points, three rebounds and an assist.  Freshman guard Hannah Oehlstrom added 13 points, six rebounds, three steals and two assists.  Freshman guard Rose Carter (pictured) came off the bench and contributed nine points, six rebounds, three assists and one steal.
“I was happy with our intensity,” Head Coach Vince Granito stated.  “The first half was one of our better halves of the season.  But Wayne County picked up the defensive intensity in the fourth quarter and we didn’t handle it well.  Wayne County is a good D-II team.  They beat Sinclair which is one of the better teams in our league (OCCAC),” Granito pointed out.
Wayne County out-shot LCCC, 42% to 32% and was dominant on the boards, 60-34.
The Lady Commodores’ are now 4-10 this season.  Their next action is home against Cuyahoga CC on Wednesday evening, January 10, at 5:30 p.m.
