LCCC Volleyball Battles Division II Terra State for Big Road Win
September 5, 2019 – – The Commodore Volleyball Team took on Terra State Community College yesterday and scored a big road win to take their record to 5-3 on the season. LCCC won the first set 25-23, but the Titans were able to grab a set from the NJCAA’s 7th ranked DIII team with a 27-25 victory. Lorain won the third 25-18, and completed the match with a decisive 25-10 win in the fourth set.
Terra State is a Division II school in their probationary year in the Ohio Community College Athletic Conference (OCCAC) as a new program, but one that offers scholarships and residential housing.
LCCC Head Coach, Ted Whitsel, said “Terra State is a great new team and it was a heck of a battle. There were a lot of really hard hit balls and an incredible defensive effort on both sides. It was a lot of fun and it was definitely the best I have seen us play this year. We really took care of the ball and just outlasted them.”
Lydia Solak (LaGrange/Christian Community School) led the offense with 11 kills and a .346 attack percentage, while Kara Sullinger (N. Ridgeville) handed out 42 assists and had 12 digs. Brooklyn Hudson (New London/Fitchville) led the defensive effort, picking up 20 digs for the Commodores. Myah McDonald (Avon) added 14 digs and Vanecia Billings (Lorain/Clearview) had 4 blocks, including 3 solo blocks in the win.
The Commodores are back in action Friday, September 6-7, 2019, at the Shannon McBride Invitational hosted by Lakeland Community College.
