Second half Spurs Commodores to 79-55 Victory at Southern State CC

The Lorain County Community College men’s basketball team was led by freshman forward Jovon Jones’ (pictured) team-highs of 14 points, seven rebounds and four blocked shots to earn its 19th win of the season, 79-55, at Southern State CC on Sunday, February 4. 
Freshman guard Oscar Dorsey added 12 points with three boards. Sophomore guard Mike Rell also scored a dozen points, all in the decisive second half.  Sophomore forward Zach Swain was next with nine points.  Sophomore guard Jake Schultz and freshman guard Montez Day each scored eight points.  Schultz also grabbed three boards. Freshman guard Luis Santiago and freshman guard Thomas Hronis each added five points.
The Commodores used a 42-22 second half burst after a narrow 37-33 lead at halftime.  Southern State took the lead for a couple possessions early in the second half before LCCC clamped down on defense.   
  The defensive effort led by freshman guard Justis Craig (pictured below) with four steals and a strong disruptive influence.  Day also was credited with a great defensive effort.  Sophomore forward Miles Meredith pulled down five rebounds.
“J.J. (Jovon Jones) led our team today to a solid win,” Head Coach Marty Eggleston stated.  “We had good balance in our scoring and the defense triggered the offense in the second half, especially Justis Craig and Montez Day,” Eggleston 
The Commodores own a 19-3 record and will play at Cuyahoga CC on Wednesday night, Feb. 7, at 7:30 p.m. (Metro campus).
