Second-Ranked Owens CC Hands Volleyball OCCAC Loss
September 18, 2019 – – Owens Community College showed why they are the NJCAA’s second-ranked team in Division III, as they defeated Lorain County Community College 3-0 in OCCAC play.
The Commodores kept it close early in set one before the taller Express team turned up the heat with aggressive play at the net to run off seven consecutive points on their way to a 25-14 win.
Lorain adjusted their game and went up 14-6 in set two as they forced Owens into several hitting errors before Owens chipped away at the lead, taking set two 25-23.
LCCC was up 6-2 on the Express in set three but once again, Owens answered by playing nearly errorless ball, winning the final set 25-13.
Kara Sullinger (N. Ridgeville) had 18 assists (76-76), while Lydia Solak (LaGrange/Christian Community School) led the team with five kills (21 of 25) and three blocks. Brooklyn Hudson (New London/Fitchville) had 19 digs.
LCCC will play at Clark State CC at 1 p.m., Saturday, September 21, 2019 for an OCCAC match. The loss drops the Commodores to 2-3 in conference play and to 10-6 overall on the season.
