Volleyball Splits OCCAC Weekend Road Matches
October 7, 2019 – – The Lorain County Community College Volleyball team split two road matches this weekend against Division II OCCAC opponents. LCCC is now 12-9 overall and 4-6 in conference play.
LCCC lost 0-3 to Sinclair Community College by scores of 23-25, 17-25, and 11-25. Vanecia Billings (pictured; Lorain/ Clearview) led with 10 kills, off 17 attack attempts and only 2 errors. Kara Sullinger (North Ridgeville) handed out 26 assists for a 36% assist ratio. Brooklyn Hudson (New London) picked up 27 digs.
Lorain then travelled to Edison State CC on Saturday where they picked up an impressive five set win over the Chargers after starting 0-2 in the match. Final scores were 23-25, 21-25, 25-16, 25-14, and 15-7.
Billings again had a stellar night at the net as she recorded a career-high 19 kills and hit an impressive .318. Fellow Middle Hitter, Lydia Solak (LaGrange/Christian Community School) tied her season-high with 16 kills and a .281 attack percent. Sullinger dished out a season-high 49 assists for 43% and served up three aces.
Defensively the Commodores averaged 27 digs per set and had six players with double-digit digs. Myah McDonald (Avon) took top honors with a career-high 30 digs, while teammate Alyssa Burch (Wakeman/ Western Reserve) had a career-best 23. Sullinger and Maddie Markovich (Sheffield Village/ Christian Community School) each had 22 digs, while Hudson added 18 and Ashley Elliott (LaGrange/Keystone) finished with 10 in the victory.
