“They capitalized on our mistakes, played hard and played well as a team,” Head Coach Marty Eggleston said of Wayne County. “It’s not that we lost; it’s how we lost. We didn’t have the fire tonight; it was a lesson learned,” Eggleston added.
Wayne County opened a 10-point lead at the 11-minute mark of the first half and extended it to 13 by halftime, 45-32, matching LCCC’s lowest first-half point total of the season.
After falling behind by 20 points, 79-59, with 6:41 to play, LCCC went on a 10-1 run to cut the deficit to 11 at 80-69 with 4:21 remaining. However, Wayne County scored the next seven points and closed the game on a 22-7 run.
LCCC will have an 11-day break before hosting Cuyahoga CC — the top-ranked NJCAA D-II team in the country — on Wednesday, January 10, at 7:30 p.m.
