Women’s Basketball Closes out Regular Season with Loss
February 19, 2020 – – The Lorain County Community College Women’s Basketball team closed out their regular season with a 75-43 loss to Owens Community College but will have another shot at their OCCAC rival this weekend as they will square off again in the NJCAA Region XII Division III Championship Semi-Finals.
It was a tough game for the Commodores offensively as they only shot 23.4% from the field and had only one player in double figures. Vanecia Billings (Lorain/Clearview) scored 13 points, including five of eight from the charity stripe. She also had seven rebounds and two blocked shots. Brandyce Smith (Lorain/Clearview) and Haley Sprouse (LaGrange/Keystone) added nine and eight points, respectively.
LCCC finishes their regular season at 6-19 overall and 2-8 in the OCCAC. Owens improves to 9-13 and 6-3.
Semi-final action begins at 12 p.m., Saturday, February 22, 2020, at Ohio Christian University. The winner of this game will meet Columbus State Community College in the Championship game on Sunday with a chance to advance to the District Championship on February 29, 2020.
