Women’s Basketball Grabs Opening Season Win
November 2, 2019 – – The Lorain County Community College Women’s Basketball Team kicked off their basketball season on a positive note with a 67-46 win over Erie Community College on Friday night in the opening round of The Commodore Classic.
Brandyce Smith (picured; Lorain/Clearview) led LCCC with 19 points and three assists, while Bri Gallagher (Medina/Cloverleaf) had 13 points, nine rebounds, and five steals in the win. Ashley Elliott (LaGrange/ Keystone) contributed 11 points and Vanecia Billings (Lorain/Clearview) pulled in 10 rebounds.
Round two matched them up with a tough Penn State Dubois team where they held it close in the first half, heading into the locker room down 45-38. The Nittany Lions shot a stellar 58% from the field in the second half, while holding LCCC to just 27% on their way to a 90-56 victory.
Haley Sprouse (LaGrange/Keystone) dropped in 16 points, had five steals, and two assists. Gallagher hit for double-digit points for the Commodores with 12 and Billings hit the boards for 11 rebounds.
The Commodores travel to CC of Beaver County for their next game at 1 p.m., Sunday, November 10, 2019.
