Business Internship Leads to a Great Career

Kevin Klanac learned skills in his accounting classes that helped him to land an internship during his second year at LCCC. That internship led to a full-time job at Comstat Architects in Rocky River, where he is now the accounting and office manager.
“I can’t overstate the value that my internship provided. I learned how to translate many ideas that I’ve seen in the classroom into actual policies and procedures for a company,” Klanac explained.
Klanac graduated from LCCC in 2016 with an associate degree in accounting. He maintained a 4.0 GPA throughout his studies. Prior to attending LCCC, he earned a bachelor’s degree in psychology from The Ohio State University. Finding a job in that field was challenging, and Klanac wasn’t sure what to do next. So, he came to LCCC to explore his options. Initially, he stopped by campus to learn more, but he quickly found himself enrolling for classes starting the next semester.
“I chose to attend Lorain County Community College because it is close to my home, inexpensive, and easy to enroll and get started. The ease of the enrollment process helped me to overcome my anxiety and simply move forward,” he said.
Klanac is working toward a master’s degree in accounting from Cleveland State University.
While at LCCC, Klanac was appointed to the LCCC Student Senate and served as the Outreach Coordinator for the 2015 fall term. He also served as a Connect 2 Complete Peer Advocate, helping his fellow students find the help and services they may need to be successful. He was named to the 2016 First Team All-Ohio Academic Team by the American Association of Community Colleges and Phi Theta Kappa.
Klanac lives in North Ridgeville.
