Interested in combating viruses? Join us for a conversation with Dr. Harry Kestler, professor of Microbiology at Lorain County Community College. Prior to teaching at LCCC, Dr. Kestler taught at the Lerner Medical College of the Cleveland Clinic and held a faculty position in the department of Microbiology and Molecular Genetics at Harvard Medical School. For the past three decades, Dr. Kestler has studied infectious diseases. He is a worldwide leader on HIV-AIDS is credited with discovering the first live attenuated vaccine for the AIDS virus. In his spare time, he also hosts an informative video series to update our community on the coronavirus and answers many questions people have about the pandemic.

So You Want to Be a Police Officer

Episode 14

Join us as we explore what it takes to be a police officer with Jim McManus. Jim McManus served as a Police Officer in the Cleveland Heights area for 24 years. While there he served as Commander then transitioned to assistant professor and Criminal Justice coordinator here at LCCC. He has also served as a Police Chief for the city of Geneva and the Village of Kipton.

We discuss the characteristics of police work and what it takes to succeed in the profession. So You Want to Be a Politician

Episode 9

Former Mayor of the city of Lorain, Chase Ritenauer, joins us for a discussion on entering politics as a profession. It’s not just for those who want to run for office. Many students who aspire to public service can get their start here at Lorain County Community College. We discuss the Public Administration major, internship opportunities and the Cleveland State partnership program that allows students to complete a bachelor’s degree without leaving LCCC.

Although Chase currently works for Republic Services and resides in the Chicago area, he also teaches two online classes through LCCC: Public Administration and American Government. Ritenauer obtained his A.A degree through LCCC, holds bachelor’s and master’s degrees in Public Administration and is a CPA, Certified Public Accountant.
