These Roots Run Deep
The Culinary Arts Institute and program is steeped in local history.
Even the name of the restaurant, Sage & Seed, stems from the original use of the land where our campus now sits. A vegetable farm originally made up a major part of this land, and years later would become home to the state’s first permanent community college campus in 1966.
The Culinary Arts Institute of Lorain County Community College is a collaboration between visionary chefs, a talented student pool, and farm-to-table initiatives. The Culinary Arts Institute is the epicenter for culinary arts and hospitality in Northeastern Ohio. It gives the community many opportunities for personal enrichment and culinary entertainment, professional skill improvement in both the culinary arts and business acumen for seasoned pros and those seeking a start in the industry.
The Culinary Arts Institute is located in the Ben & Jane Norton Culinary Arts Center, which is sandwiched between the college’s Spitzer Conference Center and Stocker Arts Center. This give students in the Culinary Arts program the opportunity to hone their skills in the student-run restaurant, Sage & Seed, each spring semester when it opens. The students prepare the food and wait the tables, gaining experience on both sides of the house.
