Associate of Applied Science in Electric Power Utility Technology – Substation Technology

FirstEnergy, one of the largest electric utility systems in the country, has partnered with Lorain County Community College to train the next generation of top-quality, well-educated and experienced line workers. Through this program, you may earn an Associate of Applied Science degrees and be eligible for employment with First Energy immediately after graduation.

In order to be selected for the program, you must pass a technical evaluation by First Energy and undergo placement testing with LCCC. You’ll also need to successfully complete a background check, a physical capabilities assessment, and a climbing course.

If you are selected, First Energy will provide all tuition, fees, books, and protective clothing free of charge. In exchange, you are required to work for First Energy for at least three years. The entry job title is Substation Technician, and starting salaries range from $18 to $21 per hour with paid overtime.

The Electric Power Utility Technology program will provide you with an application-oriented electrical background and extensive hands-on laboratory experience with standard and specialized test equipment. You’ll gain the knowledge, skills, and competencies that the electric power utility industry needs today. At the end of your two-year study program, you’ll be job-ready and able to enter into a rewarding career in the in the electric power utility field.
