Learning specialist Kelly Gruscinski nominated Saida Markovic as a Great Grad for her achievements as a Lorain County Community College student. She will earn her associate degree in liberal arts this May, and her bachelor’s degree from Cleveland State University in psychology in the fall as part of the University Partnership. “To me, Saida defines the word: hero,” Gruscinski said. “She is one of the most brave, courageous people I know. Saida has faced defeats and failures along the way, yet she never gives up. She is accomplishing one of her lifelong goals—to receive her college education.”
“When I am with her I tend to feel more hope than I usually feel,” Gruscinski said. “She offers the world unconditional love and she truly looks for the good in all people.”
The dean’s list student lives in Amherst. Gruscinski explained that when Markovic relocated to America from Venezuela many years ago “I doubt she would have believed that her college graduation dream would actually come true.” Today Gruscinski calls her a role model.
