This May Shaqueal McCoy will complete his associate of applied science in criminal justice with hopes to make his family and community proud.
The 23-year-old plans to earn a bachelor’s degree through the University Partnership at LCCC.
“LCCC has always been right down the street and has had my back on numerous occasions,” he said. “The teachers and staff have always gone above and beyond to make sure I fully comprehend what it is I have to do in order to graduate.”
He chose LCCC for several reasons. “LCCC is right down the street from where I live (in Elyria) and the cost is way less than any other college in Ohio,” McCoy said. “I am proud to be a LCCC graduate.”
McCoy knew he would have had even greater challenges without the help of his uncle, his main source of support.
“For my first three years attending LCCC, my uncle, who has always been more of a father figure to me, drove me to and from school every day,” McCoy said. “He made sure I never missed a class, seminar or even a presentation during the summer. I’ve always had the skills I needed to graduate, but this would never be possible without his continued support and belief in me and my goals. There’s no proper way to thank him, as he just recently passed away, but I owe all my success to him.”
