Lorain resident Shayne Smith is graduating from Lorain County Community College with an associate of arts degree. He is part of the Early College High School that allows students beginning in ninth grade to participate in a combined high school and college experience in order to earn a high school diploma and college associate degree at the same time through LCCC. Courses are taught on the campus at no charge to the students.
The 18-year-old said his dream when he came to LCCC was to earn a college degree. He plans to continue his education and eventually earn a master’s degree.
Ultimately, LCCC “allowed me to come to school close to home and earn my degree,” he said. He plans to attend Adrian College in Michigan and play basketball.
Smith attributes his success to the help of his professors and parents.
