Associate of Applied Science in Medical Assisting – Administrative Focus
Medical assistants perform clerical and clinical tasks that keep the offices of physicians, podiatrists, chiropractors and optometrists running smoothly.
In this program, you’ll get an introduction to the medical field as an assistant to a physician, focusing on the business skills needed to manage an office. You’ll learn about insurance billing and medical coding, as well as bookkeeping, business law, and human resources as they apply to a medical office. You’ll also learn the basics of procedures used in medical exams, specimen collection practices, medical terminology and patient care.
This program builds on the coursework in the medical assisting one-year certificate program. That means you’ll be eligible to sit for examination through the AAMA (American Association of Medical Assistants) to become a certified medical assistant after completing the first two semesters but can continue your education to earn an associate degree.
