Associate of Applied Science in Medical Assisting – Clinical Focus
Medical assistants perform clinical and clerical tasks that keep the offices of physicians, podiatrists, chiropractors and optometrists running smoothly.
In this program, you’ll get an introduction to the medical field as an assistant to a physician, focusing on clinical skills such as phlebotomy and the use of laboratory equipment. You’ll also learn the basics of procedures used in medical exams, medical terminology, and patient care as well as business procedures used in health care facilities.
This program builds on the coursework in the medical assisting one-year certificate program. That means you’ll be eligible to sit for examination through the AAMA (American Association of Medical Assistants) to become a certified medical assistant after completing the first two semesters but can continue your education to earn an associate degree.
