Short-Term Technical Certificate

The Sterile Processing Technician short-term technical certificate program prepares you to work within a health-care facility in a non-patient care field.  The sterile processing technician student will learn about ways to eliminate infectious disease with surgical supplies, instruments, and equipment, so they can be properly processed for clinical and surgical use.  You will also learn excellent skills in logistics pertaining to record keeping, sterile storage, and distribution methods in the healthcare environment.

The sterile processing program follows guidelines from the International Association of Healthcare Central Service Material Management (IAHCSMM), so students will be able to gain the nationally recognized certificate of a Certified Registered Central Sterile Technician (CRCST).

Career Opportunities

Sterile processing technicians are a vital part of the medical community. Hospitals, clinics, dental offices, surgical centers, and private corporations all have career opportunities for sterile processing technicians to ensure there is no spread of infections with the instruments and supplies used in daily operations.  Wherever there are patients, sterile processing technicians are needed.  Most career opportunities will be found in hospitals and surgery centers, where they require supplies and instruments to be sterilized and ready for use around the clock. Flexible hours and a variety of shifts are available to accommodate most schedules.
