Addiction Counselor – Short-Term Certificate
Focusing specifically on the problems of addiction, this program will teach you to help prevent substance abuse, counsel individuals and families with drug and alcohol problems, and perform intervention and therapeutic services for persons suffering from addiction.
You’ll learn to identify substance abuse and the behaviors associated with specific substances, select and evaluate the appropriate treatments, and run individual and group counseling sessions. Courses will also cover related laws and regulations, professional standards and ethics, and prevention resources. You’ll participate in a specialized practicum experience in the field in order to gain hands-on experience.
The courses in the program meet the State of Ohio’s education requirements for certification as a Chemical Dependency Counselor Assistant and may also be applied toward the Associate of Applied Science in Human Services.
