The Lorain County Community College Library and the Elyria Public Library North Branch will present a FRED Talk “Once Upon a Time: A South Side Story with Raquel Ortiz” at 12 p.m. on Wednesday, October 17 at the Bass Library.

Native anthropologist, educator, social justice activist and writer Dr. Raquel Ortiz, a native of Lorain, will speak about her experiences with storytelling. She will also talk about the many mediums that she has used to tell and share stories that includes newspaper articles, children’s picture books, plays, documentaries, and animation. Clips of Memories on the Wall: Education and Enrichment through Community Murals (2013), Puerto Rican Diaspora: Lorain, Ohio (2017) and Martina y Pérez (2018) will be shown and discussed.

FRED talks are modeled after TED talks. TED is a nonprofit that spreads ideas through short talks on important topics and developments. The event is free and open to the public.
