The Lorain County Community College volleyball team lost to Columbus State, 3-0, in the NJCAA Region 12 championship at Columbus State CC on Friday evening. The scores were 16-25, 20-25, 19-25.
Sophomore Kelli Warren (Lorain/Clearview) topped the offense with 13 kills while sophomore hitter Mary Williams (Sheffield/Brookside) contributed eight more and freshman middle hitter Alana Carrion (Amherst/Marion Steele) added seven kills. Freshman setter Angela Dunn (Fairview Park/Fairview) was credited with 20 assists. The defensive effort was paced by sophomore defensive specialist McKenzie Zauner (North Olmstead/North Olmstead) with 22 digs while freshman Tanea McCord (North Olmstead/North Olmstead) added 11 digs.
“We played hard with lots of energy, but made some unforced errors at critical times,” Head Coach Ted Whitsel said. “Mary, Kelli and Alana played well. Overall our defense made a lot of hustle plays to keep us in the match, but Columbus State was the better team tonight,” Whitsel added.
The Lady Commodores season ended with a 12-19 record. They will have seven freshmen returning for next season.
