The Lorain County Community College Women’s Cross Country Team came home today as NJCAA Region 12 Champion, while the men’s team finished second to Columbus State this afternoon in Lansing, Michigan.

Freshman Gabrielle Post (Avon Lake/Avon Lake) ran second among Division III runners and earned All-Region honors in a personal best time of 21:08, just four seconds out of first place. Sophomore Heather Wigton (Amherst/Steele) was right behind in third place and also earned All-Region honors in a personal best 21:41. All six women runners turned in personal best times and all six ran among the top 10 finishers.

The men’s team was led by freshman Micah Swartz (Lakewood/Lakewood) who became the individual champion in the Region 12 DIII race, earning All-Region accolades in a personal best 27:46. Six of the seven runners clocked personal best times and four of the seven runners finished in the top 10.

“We are in the best shape of the season with nationals coming up next week,” Head Coach Jim Powers noted. “It was awesome watching our runners fight for every second this week,” Powers added.

Men finished second to Columbus State in DIII, 11th out of 11 teams overall in, including DI teams

Kevin Jordan 33:45 (season best) 14th place in DIII
Jacob Kelley 46:46 15th place in DIII

The men and women will compete in the NJCAA DIII National Championship Meet in Holyoke Massachusetts on Saturday November 4.
