Lorain County Community College’s Stocker Arts Center hosts Anne E. DeChant trio with band members Kelly Wright and Pete Cavano in concert at 8 p.m. on Friday and Saturday, March 16 and 17 in the Cirigliano Studio Theatre.
Hailing from northeast Ohio, DeChant is now an award-winning Nashville recording artist. Before beginning her solo career, DeChant was the lead singer for the popular rock-Americana band, Odd Girl Out, based in Cleveland. When she was performing in Cleveland, she was named Singer-Songwriter of the Year five times. She has shared the stage with performers such as Stevie Nicks, Norah Jones, Joan Armatrading, Sheryl Crow and the Indigo Girls, and has played venues ranging from the Clinton White House to such storied listening rooms as Nashville’s Bluebird Café, the Evening Muse in Charlotte, Music Box Supper Club in Cleveland, Kimbro’s in Franklin, TN, and Frog Pond in Silver Hill, AL.
Dechant was born and raised in Avon Lake. Her great grandmother, Clara Tomanek, was one of the first citizens of the community and the Avon Lake High School practice football field was actually her great grandfather Edward DeChant’s (Ohio state representative) grape vineyard. Her mom and dad were also born and raised in Avon Lake, were high school sweethearts and Avon Lake homecoming king and queen. DeChant graduated from Avon Lake High School where she was captain of the cross country and track teams. Her parents still live in Avon Lake and are both very active in the community. Her father is a member of the Avon Lake Boat Club.
