Bachelor of Arts in Spanish (3 + 1)

As of Fall 2022, this UP partnership program will no longer be admitting new students. Current UP students should contact the LCCC Transfer Coordinator and CSU Transfer Center to discuss degree completion. LCCC students interested in this CSU program, can contact the CSU Transfer Center to discuss transferring to CSU to pursue this program of study as a transfer student.

Studies in Spanish at Cleveland State University include language study for non-natives and for heritage speakers. In addition, Spanish majors have in-depth knowledge of Hispanic cultures. Our graduates have a broad overview of Spanish and Latin American history as well as an appreciation of customs and world views.

The advanced Spanish curriculum gives students in-depth knowledge of Hispanic art, literature and linguistics. As a result, a Spanish major has cultural as well as linguistic proficiency.

Admission Requirements

  1. Applications can be submitted the term before a student intends to start the CSU program.  Students should work with their LCCC Advisor and the CSU Transfer Center to determine the best time to transfer.
  2. Credit from regionally accredited institutions will be evaluated for credit at CSU.  Students must earn a ‘D’ or higher for the course to transfer.
  3. Be in good standing with a 2.0+ GPA.
  4. High school transcripts will be required for students who have under 12 college credit hours and may be required for financial aid and/or foreign language requirements.
  5. ACT/SAT scores are not required for students who have earned 12 or more college credit hours.
  6. CSU requires students to have a cumulative 2.0+ GPA from all regionally accredited institutions for admission.
  7. Students earning their associate degree while in high school cannot apply to the CSU partnership program until they take college credit hours post-high school graduation.  Students should work with the CSU Transfer Center for guidance on courses to take at LCCC, as up to 90 credits can be earned at LCCC before transferring to CSU’s program.

Application Procedures

CSU has “multi-term” registration, which means in March, students register for classes for the fall, spring, and summer of the entire next academic year. For example, in March 2022, students register for all of fall 2022, spring 2023, and summer 2023. Therefore, students expecting to take courses in any semester in the 22-23 school year are advised to apply before (or by) January 2022.

To apply to the Partnership, follow the steps below:

  1. Complete an online application.   Select “pay by mail” and don’t pay $40.
  2. Complete a Partnership Supplement Form and email it to TransferCenter@csuohio.edu.  This waives the $40 fee.
  3. Request all colleges you attended to send official transcripts directly to CSU. High school, also.
  4. Once your materials are in, check your CampusNet for an admission decision. It can happen fast!
  5. Once admitted, meet with your CSU advisor.

Submit all college-level transcripts to:

How do I know if I am in the University Partnership?

How do I know if I am in the University Partnership?

  • You are following the UP Curriculum Pathway from the associate to the bachelor’s degree.
    • For 2:2 degrees, you have been admitted to the partner institution and have registered for your first classes the upcoming semester, 3rd year of partner classes.  The first day of the 3rd year class, you are officially a UP student.
    • For 3:1 degrees, you are a UP student if you are registered for the 3rd year in either bridgework LCCC classes or UP partner classes. You may not be necessarily admitted with the UP partner just yet.  The first day of the 3rd year of UP or LCCC bridgework class, you are officially a UP student.
  • UP Office will use the email address your partner institution shares with us, which is once a semester, to email out a reminder to you about the UP program supports and services.
  • If you are unsure if you are in the UP, you are welcome to email or call the UP Office to verify your status.

How do I show proof I am a UP student to receive benefits and supports offered at LCCC

  • Go to the Circulation Desk on the 2nd floor of the LCCC Bass Library  (440) 366-4026.
  • Show your class registration for UP classes with the partner institution or LCCC bridgework classes.
  • Bass Library staff will place a color coded sticker on the back of your LCCC or partner institution ID card.  If you have no LCCC or UP ID card, a UP ID card will be issued to you.
  • You will need to get a new sticker (date specific) each semester that you are registered for UP partner classes.
  • An ID card is not required but would be needed if you are seeking benefits and supports at LCCC while in the partnership.
  • Supports and services are for Elyria Campus and the Learning Centers (Community Learning  Center at Lorain High School, Lorain Learning Center at City Center, LCCC Wellington Center, and University Partnership Ridge Campus).
