SALUTE Veterans National Honor Society
Welcome to the LCCC Chapter of Salute Veterans National Honor Society! You have not only served your nation as a member of the United States Armed Forces, but your academic achievements and contributions to the community deserve recognition.

History
SALUTE stands for Service, Academics, Leadership, Unity, Tribute, and Excellence. SALUTE is the only organization to recognize the academic achievements of Active Duty, Reservists, National Guard and Veteran students. Founded and headquartered at Colorado State University, SALUTE was made possible by grants from the American Council on Education and the Walmart Foundation.
Membership Criteria
Membership in SALUTE is by invitation only and open to all LCCC students. Eligible students will be notified and encouraged to complete the application process.
- Students who would like to be considered must be currently enrolled and provide proof of military service. Veteran applicants must have received an Honorable Discharge. This can be verified through a copy of their DD-214 (Member 4) or VA Certificate of Eligibility. Students not using VA benefits who are either active duty, reserves, or in the National Guard will need to provide a copy of current military orders.
- Students must complete a minimum of 12 credit hours before induction.
- Inducted undergraduate students will be classified in four tiers. To qualify, students must have at least a 3.00 cumulative GPA.
To become a member of SALUTE, eligible students must submit a membership fee of $35 and complete the application.
Membership Privileges
Through SALUTE Headquarters:
Benefits of membership include eligibility of individual members to apply and compete for national SALUTE scholarships. SALUTE is being set up so that operating costs are low and the majority of membership fees will be going into scholarships for student veterans across the nation who are students at institutions with charter membership. These nationally awarded scholarships are designed to support student veterans who need supplementation of their GI Bill funding or who do not have GI Bill funding. Another benefit is the ability to nominate representatives to the SALUTE National Advisory Committee.
Through LCCC:
Any SALUTE member who participates in the Lorain County Community College commencement ceremony will be distinguished as a SALUTE member by wearing SALUTE regalia. All veterans and service members attending a commencement ceremony also receive a red, white and blue cord regardless of GPA or SALUTE membership
